Cataclysm and WOW Shaman

Cataclysm was a big expansion to WOW and as all big expansions all casters get new spells and the Shamans in Cataclysm are no different.
Cataclysm Shaman – Dispels
First change for Shamans in Cataclysm bring justice and make the Shamans a bit more tough (and hard to kill), but at the same time weakens them in other areas, so this is somthing you will want to be aware of (even if you are not playing a Shaman).
Cataclysm Shaman has been given three dispels just like all the other healing classes. That means they now can dispel both offensive and defensive magic and cures, but at the same time they had to give up their dispel for diseases and poisons. This change, although small, have influence on the way Shaman are playing and thier part in a group, especially in PvP and PvE.
Cataclysm Shaman – Healing
Then you have the new Shaman healing spell – the Healing Rains. Shamans get this spell at level 83, and with it they can heal a group over time. This makes them better hellers then they used to be. One thing to keep in mind is that Healing Rains is subject to diminished returns. The more people in the party you cast it on, the less healing effect each will receive.
Also, the Healing wave has also been changed to a Greater Healing wave, and as the name implies this spell is much stronger than in the past.
To sweeten the pot just a little more we have Spiritwalker’s Grace which allows you to keep moving or take damage and still keep casting your spells. WHen you are the healer of your group that can make a lot of difference.
So with all the healing changes Resto Shammys are going to be able to heal as good as Priests in many situations.
Cataclysm Shaman – Weapons
If you add to this the Unleashed Weapons ability, that work in a similar fashion to the Paladin’s Judgment, you get a very powerful WOW character.
You now can choose a weapon buff (for each of your weapons): Windfury for massive damage, Flametoungue for Fire damage – constant damage regardless of opponents’ armor, Frostbrand for DPS, Earthliving when you heal. also have the Rockbiter weapon buff, but that one is only useful in lower levels.
Cataclysm Shaman – Calculation
Some of the changes have been good, some – not so much, but the one thing you need to know about any Mana using class in Cataclysm is that: You are going to have to keep a much closer eye on your Mana level as it will go down at a faster rate than you are used from Wrath of the Lich King.
