Arcane Mage and Fire Mage – Cataclysm Talents for PvP
WOW players that play a Mage know that using him in PvP effectively need practice and talent – As WOW Mages are probably not the first choice for PvP by all WOW players.
If you are one of the elite that prefer to spend time in PvP with your Mage, then you probably know and love the changes to the WOW Mage talent tree in Cataclysm.
Arcane Mage in PvP
The best Mage PvP talents in Cataclysm are the ones you use as an Arcane Mage as they have been devised to provide you with plenty of fire power to take out your opponents and keep your Mana levels high.
Among these talents are: Arcane Power, Arcane Concentration, Improved Mana Shield and Presence of Mind. Yes those spells are not the most Mana efficient spells, but by using those spells you get maximum nuking power, making the max amount of damage to your opponent.
In addition to all of that, you also have the new talent – Slow. This spell work exactly as its name hint, and slows your opponent down so you get more time to do damage and can keep your distance from your opponent if needed.
Going Arcane talent tree with your WOW Mage is the right choice for PvP. So if you do go Arcane Mage you will want to add the Improved and Empowered Arcane Explosion as well as Arcane Missiles to the list above.
The new Arcane Missiles is a proc rather than being a straight button activated spell. Because it is a proc, the amount of damage the Arcane Missiles do has been increased significantly. Adding all of this together will make the Arcane Mage all but unstoppable in both the arenas and the battlegrounds.
Fire Mage in PvP
Fire Mages were very popular choice before Cataclysm, and are still the next most effective build for PvP – If you do it right! Until recently the Fire Mage has been a hugely popular build with mass amounts of damage, Arcane has replaced Fire as the hardest hitting, only in Cataclysm.
If you would like to keep your Fire Mage and not change to Arcane as your main spec, then the WOW secret for Fire Mages for PvP spec is - You still need to put enough points in Arcane to get Arcane Power.
This is needed so that you can still take advantage of those hard hitting arcane spells that are so powerful in PvP. That is if you want your Mage to hold his ground in PvP!
Fire offers some very hard hitting spells as well. That includes the new Fire Orb that does almost 500 DPS for up to 15 seconds. When you combine this with your Arcane Missiles, your enemies are not likely to last very long.
Fire Mage spec combines with some Arcane Mage spec can be use by high levels Mages to have a good position in PvP but still enjoy all the worlds WOW Mages have to offer.
WOW Mage in PvP
One thing you need to remember, and that is true with both of these builds, is that you need to keep a close eye on your Mana levels at all time, as both are very heavy Mana users.
Taking any class into PvP is not easy, Mage PvP is just hard!
